Peppers Bluewater Resort Review - Lake Tekapo, NZ
You know that feeling when you’ve been on the go for ages! Everyones tired, cranky and frankly there is no escaping being hangry.
We were booked in with Peppers Resort at Lake Tekapo to conclude day 2 of our South Island of New Zealand Road Trip, and I could not wait to flop onto the bed, have the aircon blasting, a glass of wine in hand and snack on some chips. Simple but effective.
I was truthfully assuming the grounds and accommodation around Lake Tekapo to be very basic. That was until we drove in through the entrance gates of Peppers Bluewater Resort.
Firstly, parking, right outside the check in facilities. There is no need to be walking from here to there at this resort. You’ll find that everything is accessible and designed for use.
Not only did I first notice how modern the check in building was, but the friendly staff made you feel welcome almost immediately. No sitting around and ringing the bell waiting for someone to come and assist me.
Directly behind the check in desk was a floor to roof glass slider of which reveals a cute pond outside the building, and beyond this a glimpse of the teal blue lake. The restaurant sits in this building too, and I couldn’t help but notice the cleanliness.
The grounds are reasonably expansive, once we got given our room and keys, it was wise to drive to the room. Unless you like to treck from one spot to the other, some kind of transport is ideal.
The grounds are spread out generously and most apartment buildings (as we were staying in) were divided into 2 residences. A and B. (just make sure you get into the right one!).
One thing that does make a difference to me is smooth concrete. Sounds interesting but, as a small person who has to lug around a lot of luggage, the smoother the concrete the happier I am. Smooth concrete was beautifully finished around the majority of the resort. The only gravel area was at the car park.
Entering the apartment there was a generous sized corridor through to the bedroom, bathroom and ascending stairs. The room immediately smelt fresh, looked clean and had a beautiful modern vibe to it. (I do love old places on some occasions, but you can’t beat modern decor).
We had booked a twin room with 2 beds, these of ampul size and equipped with 2 bedside tables, and of course charging ports next to the bed. Thank god. We also had a generous sized glass sliding door onto a small porch looking out over the rest of the resort that we could step onto straight out of bed. I couldn’t help but notice that Peppers Resorts is very environmentally conscious. Signs in the bathroom direct guests how to save resources, go natural and think about the environment. This is so important in our currently declining world. I must say I was impressed with the extra effort.
One of the first things I think about upon arriving in a hotel room or accommodation is a shower. Usually you get stuck with little showers where you can hardly move. But not here. Perfectly sized shower and bathroom, plus did I mention there was a bath and a washing machine?!
Moving up the stairs lead me to an open planned living and dining area. A nicely planned kitchen is perfect considering I had really missed a home cooked meal. I think what made it for me was the coffee machine, if anyone knows me I live, sleep and breathe coffee, this was ideal. I felt at home in the living area and was large enough to host another few friends. It was the perfect space for me to relax and get a bit of work done.
As the afternoon drew out I opened a nice bottle of Rose and took a seat outside on the top level balcony. We had a mountain view room, wow I could not fault the view. Absolutely ideal.
If you are looking for a place to stay anywhere where Peppers Resorts or Hotels are, I’d absolutely consider booking a room/apartment with them. Thank you Peppers for your hospitality!
